Throughout the campaign, ex-Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer has named a weekly Team of the Week, and has now, as football remains in lockdown, started to reveal his Team of the Season so far.

The Blades' star stopper Dean Henderson, on loan from Manchester United for the second season in a row, has been named by Shearer as the best 'keeper in the division.

Justifying his selection, the former Blackburn striker claimed: "It was tough to leave out Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, but Sheffield United's season has been one of the best stories of the campaign and Henderson has been key to their success.

"The Manchester United loanee has kept 10 clean sheets and his bravery and confidence belie his 23 years. He is a star in the making."

Henderson has certainly proved a highly-reliable presence between the sticks, and has, alongside the Blades' terrific defence, helped the side produce the second best defensive record in the division, conceding just 25 goals in 28 games.

Meanwhile, United are understood to be confident that the Red Devils will allow him to finish the season at Bramall Lane, even if the season's resumption overruns the length of his current loan deal.
