PL club named as ideal destination for Sheffield United player, 'Too soon' for Blades manager target

That’s according to former Norway international Erik Thorstvedt, who has been discussing the 23-year-old’s future.

Berge is expected to leave Bramall Lane at the end of the season if United succumb to their current relegation plight, and there are already a number of clubs reportedly keen on snapping him up.

Belgian outlet Voetbal24 recently claimed that champions elect Manchester City are keeping tabs on the Norwegian international, but Eurosport have also suggested in recent weeks that Aston Villa are keen to sign him.

And Thorstvedt has argued that a move to Villa Park would be a much more prudent career choice for Berge.

Speaking to Nettavissen, he said: “I’m not sure [he should join Man City]. It looks like Fernandinho will be gone so they will soon be looking for a replacement.

"It is also a badly hidden secret [Berge] will change clubs this summer.

“Basically, I would have thought a club like Aston Villa or West Ham would be more likely. It would be a natural next step from a club relegated from the same division.

“We must not forget these are rumours so we must calm down a bit. Although I must admit it would have been fun to see Sander Berge at a club like Manchester City or Liverpool.”

Despite the likelihood of Berge leaving, Sheffield United are expected to demand a “substantial fee” for the player, and may refuse to sell if their valuation isn’t met.

Elsewhere, pundit Steve Bull has urged the Blades to not bring in John Terry as their next permanent manager.

It was reported last week that the former Chelsea star, who now works with Dean Smith at Aston Villa, had emerged as a candidate to take over at Bramall Lane following Chris Wilder’s departure.

But Wolves legend Bull believes that United need somebody with more experience.

Speaking to Football Fancast, he said: “It’s too soon for him I think because he needs at least another year at Villa.

“I’d wait a bit longer at Villa and learn some more from Dean Smith, then see where he goes from there.”
