Peter Crouch's hilarious account of when ex-Sheffield United striker Rob Hulse accidentally broke his nose

Former Liverpool and England striker Peter Crouch has opened up on the brutal broken nose injury he suffered at Anfield back in 2007, when Sheffield United striker Rob Hulse inadvertently booted the striker in the face as the Reds ace stooped to head the ball.

Speaking on 'That Peter Crouch Podcast', the 39-year-old gave an insight into the incident, and said: "I headed the ball and he booted my face, my nose was everywhere."

“I got in at half-time and was getting my nose fixed, and my Dad came to see me and make sure everything was alright. I said: 'How bad is it?' and he said: 'Oh, it's okay, you'll be fine'."

"The doctor said: 'It'll be alright, just let me fix it', but then the boys all came in a half-time, and I remember (Jamie) Carragher standing at the door and going: 'What the f*** happened to your face?!' - the bedside manner wasn't quite the same with him as it was the doctor."

Crouch continued: "I couldn't really breath, I was fine when I didn't know (I’d broken my nose), but as soon as I did, I suddenly couldn't breath. I found myself panicking a bit, there was no passage for air to go through my nose, I was only mouth-breathing.

"Oh, it was horrible, but I had to get that done (fixed by a medical professional). I had a nose job, I got a new nose. Before it was a little bit wonky, I had it smashed to pieces by Rob Hulse, and then I got it lined up pretty straight."

He concluded: "So, I actually improved my looks. I took an elbow and a boot to the face, and it's made me better (looking)."

The former Stoke City ace also revealed that he lost four front teeth courtesy of an elbow from Newcastle United's Fabricio Coloccini, and also has a scar on his face inflicted by ex-Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.
