Brewster spent last season on loan at Swansea in the Championship and fired them into the end-of-season play-offs with seven goals in 11 appearances after lockdown ended.

The England U21 striker is highly thought-of at Liverpool and although it is understood that United would like to buy Brewster, a loan move looks more likely at this stage as United look to inject some pace into their front line for the 2020/21 season.

Brewster has good pedigree, after finishing as top scorer in the U17 World Cup as an England side also containing the likes of Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho won the tournament.

Sources in Swansea talk about a player who works incredibly hard for the team, even when he's not scoring goals, which will be music to the ears of Chris Wilder. Brewster isn't shy of dropping deep to get on the ball and link play - something United sometimes miss when David McGoldrick doesn't play - and although the mention of a loan player from Liverpool inevitably reminds some Blades fans of Ben Woodburn, Brewster's case is slightly different.

United was Woodburn's first senior loan, while Brewster has had a season out on loan at Swansea to find his feet as a professional footballer. Only time will tell if his professional development continues at Bramall Lane, but the link makes a lot of sense.

“We all know he has got the talent and the ability," Steven Gerrard said of Brewster when he was in charge of Liverpool's U18 side.

“If Rhian wants to go far and stay at the top, if he can put in that work rate and relentless running, that’s how he’s going to get the better of most defenders.”

Jurgen Klopp, Brewster’s manager at Anfield, is known to be an admirer of Wilder’s work at Bramall Lane and is understood to view United as the perfect place for the England under-21 international to develop his skills in Premier League action.
