Paul Heckingbottom to assess Sheffield United squad for injuries ahead of Newcastle United test - but man of the moment Daniel Jebbison has 'no problem' to play
Paul Heckingbottom will assess his Sheffield United squad before deciding whether to make any changes for Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle United.
The Blades will travel to the north east buoyed by their victory at Everton on Sunday evening, courtesy of 17-year-old Daniel Jebbison’s winner on his full Premier League debut.
But United were forced into another change before kick-off at Goodison Park when Sander Berge rejoined a growing list of injured players at Bramall Lane.
Strikers Oli McBurnie, Billy Sharp, Lys Mousset and Oli Burke were all missing from the squad at Goodison Park, with U23 stars Zak Brunt and Kyron Gordon in the squad that travelled to Merseyside.
And ahead of their second of three games in a week, Heckingbottom hinted that his room for manoeuvre at St. James’ Park may be limited by the size of his squad.
“We’ll have a look,” he admitted.
“We’re not blessed with a big squad and we have seven or eight injuries so changes will be from the bench if we make them.
“We’ll see how everyone is feeling and moving tomorrow and pick the team from there.”
Heckingbottom did allay fears that young star Jebbison may have to be rested for the upcoming games against Newcastle and Burnley.
“He’s been worked hard,” Heckingbottom said.
“One thing with the academy boys is that they’ve been exposed to some tough physical training.
“We’ll take the same care as with any other player but in terms of him being capable to play, no problem. But we’ll assess it game by game.”
