Paul Heckingbottom sends classy good luck message to Slavisa Jokanovic after Serbian is named Sheffield United manager

Paul Heckingbottom says it was a “privilege” to take caretaker charge of Sheffield United after wishing Slavisa Jokanović all the best after being named as the Blades’ new manager yesterday.

Heckingbottom was named United’s interim manager after the departure of Chris Wilder in March and although he couldn’t halt the inevitable slide into the Championship, the former Leeds and Barnsley boss did bring some respectability back to Bramall Lane after winning three of his final six matches in charge.

United have not yet officially confirmed whether Heckingbottom will return to his previous job as the head of the Blades’ U23s, who won their league title last season.

“Thanks for all the support and kind messages from fans.

“Wishing Slav all the best in the job, I hope the club are promoted back to where they belong in 12 months’ time.”
