Paul Heckingbottom says managers will be "knocking the door down" to get Sheffield United job - here's why

Heckingbottom took temporary charge of United last month after Chris Wilder’s departure, but relegation was already inevitable long before that point before it was finally confirmed on Saturday after a 1-0 defeat at Wolves.

United have identified a number of candidates to succeed Wilder and look to get United promoted from the Championship at the first attempt, with officials doing due diligence in the hope of making a swift appointment.

Alexander Blessin of KV Oostende is known to have admirers amongst the Bramall Lane hierarchy, despite the problems of obtaining the necessary work permit under post-Brexit legislation, while Slavisa Jokanovic would be a popular appointment amongst United fans.

And Heckingbottom, when asked if managers would still see United as an attractive proposition following their shambolic season and the recent resignation of chairman Prince Musaad Bin Khalid Al Saud, insisted: “Why wouldn’t you?

“It’s a fantastic club that will have just come down from the Premier League with a great bunch of players, and an ambition to get back.

“They don't come around very often, those jobs, so there'll be people queuing up and knocking the door down, constantly ringing and trying to get in front of the right people to present themselves to be the man to bring Sheffield United back.”

Blessin recently broke his silence regarding the links to United, admitting: “If you do it right, there is always interest.”
