Paul Coutts insists he has no regrets over swapping Premier League Sheffield United for Fleetwood Town

Coutts suffered a badly-broken leg during his time at United and when he returned to full fitness, was not able to dislodge Ollie Norwood in midfield as the Blades won promotion to the Premier League.

Out of contract in the summer, Coutts was offered the chance to remain a part of the Bramall Lane squad - but opted to move on and play games, with the blessing of everyone at Bramall Lane.

The Scot then signed for Fleetwood and was handed the captain's armband by manager, Joey Barton.

“I could have stayed at Sheffield United but I hadn’t played much in the promotion season, so one of the reasons I wanted to leave was to play every week," Coutts said.

"When I met all the staff and the chairman at Fleetwood, I realised how ambitious the club was.

“I had a few things to think about last summer but the manager was desperate for me to come and see the training ground, and I realised why when I saw it.

“I don’t think people on the outside realise what facilities we have. You just wouldn’t expect it.

“They made the club something I wanted to be part of and made the decision quite easy.”

Coutts has made 37 appearances this season, helping the Cod Army to fifth in League One when the competition was suspended.
