The Manchester United goalkeeper first helped the Blades into the Premier League, and then re-signed on loan to play a big part in their push for European football.

Henderson has returned to Old Trafford with his future uncertain, while United are looking to tie up a deal for Bournemouth's Aaron Ramsdale as Henderson's successor at Bramall Lane.

And Henderson, writing on Instagram today, appeared to post an emotional farewell message to the Blades, his former teammates and the United fans.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Sheffield United for the last two years," Henderson wrote.

"Winning promotion to the Premier League with my brothers and having the season we had this season is something I will never forget.

"I would like to thank the manager, my teammates, the backroom staff and of course, the fans, who have been unbelievable towards me.

"I will look back at the last two years as an important chapter in my career and more than anything, I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn and develop with such a class group of lads.

"I can’t wait for the next chapter! Once again, thank you for everything! Once a Blade, always a Blade!"

Henderson is reportedly close to agreeing a new £100,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford, and could depart on loan again next season.
