Norwood helped United into the Premier League in his first season at Bramall Lane and has captained Wilder’s side when club skipper Billy Sharp has been absent.

United are currently in talks with four players, including John Lundstram and John Egan, over extending their stays at Bramall Lane.

But Wilder, whose side face Brighton at home this weekend, revealed that Norwood and Chris Basham were also in his contract thoughts later down the line.

“It’s nice that the club want me to stay,” Norwood said.

“We’ll get there. Simple as that.

“It’s a great thing to be a part of. Why would I want to go anywhere else? It’s not far from where I was brought up and live but more importantly, to be in the Premier League and go about things the way we have… it’s a special place to be, with the players and staff we have as well.

“It’s a special place to be and with the way things are going, I want to be here for the rest of my career. I can’t see why I’d want to leave.”
