Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn't want to talk about David de Gea or Sheffield United target Dean Henderson

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to discuss Dean Henderson’s prospects of replacing David de Gea as Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper next season, as Sheffield United press ahead with their efforts to persuade the Norwegian that the 23-year-old’s interests are best served by spending another season at Bramall Lane.

Solskjaer was questioned about Henderson’s situation - and de Gea’s chequered form this season - ahead of his side’s game against West Ham tonight.

United hope to retain Henderson’s services for another 12 months after initially signing him on loan two years ago. But their efforts have been complicated by a series of poor performances by de Gea - and the resulting clamour for Henderson to be recalled and take the Spaniard’s place.

“This is not going to become a David de Gea press conference,” Solskjaer told journalists before match at Old Trafford. “We’re just going to stick together.

“We’ve got two games, so we’re just going to focus on that. David’s mentally strong enough to know that his job is to perform in training the next day and then be ready for the games.”

"We've just got to stick together and stay strong, which we will do," he added.

After being informed that, although he might not want to talk about de Gea, others within the game, including the media, are, Solskjaer replied: “That’s your job to talk about and write about. My job is to prepare the team for West Ham and that’s what I am doing.”
