"Not his fault" - Chris Wilder says Oli Burke got "some bad press" at West Bromwich Albion after signing for Sheffield United

Chris Wilder has hailed the signing of Oliver Burke as good business for Sheffield United after revealing he thinks that the Scottish international has suffered "some bad press" at his former club West Bromwich Albion.

Burke, the former Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig forward, was officially unveiled as a Blade earlier this week after a deal, which involved United's Callum Robinson going the other way, was struck with Slaven Bilić's newly-promoted side.

Burke cost the German side around £15m when he made the move from Forest, before returning to England with the Baggies in a deal for similar money a year later.

Still only 23, Burke's departure from The Hawthorns was celebrated by a number of West Brom fans on social media.

But Wilder, speaking at his press conference ahead of United's Premier League opener at home to Wolves next Monday evening, said: "The manager at Leipzig, a powerful club in European football, knows his stuff and £15m is a big chunk of change.

"Then, to come back for £15m is not his fault. I think Oli has had some bad press at West Brom, but that's just my opinion.

"I think it's a great deal for our football club.

"With no disrespect to Callum, we were looking for something different and I am one to make quick decisions if I think things need to be changed.

"We wish Callum all the best, he's a fabulous boy but there was always going to be some trading this window.

"For us to take a fee, and get Oli as well, we think that's good business. They'll think it's a good deal for them, too."

Wilder believes Burke's speed will complement his other strikers, while he also wants to sign another before the transfer window slams shut. Rhian Brewster is thought to be his top target.

"There aren't many players with the raw pace that Oli has and the key now is to maximise what he has in his locker," Wilder added.

"All-round it's good business for everyone involved. It's a fresh start for Oli and hopefully, he will be a success."
