'Not anywhere near his best', 'Lack of composure' - Player ratings from Sheffield United's 1-1 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion

Sheffield United could have won, may easily have lost and had to settle for a point in the end from their game at Brighton and Hove Albion this afternoon.

Here’s how we rated the Blades players at the AMEX Stadium.

Aaron Ramsdale 7

Made his first save midway through the first half, a comfortable one from Connolly, and did really well to make a double save at the feet of Connolly and Maupay just before Bogle put the Blades ahead. Had a bit of a let off when he came for a cross from the right and didn't get there, but fortunately Connolly somehow headed it over the bar. Had no chance of keeping Welbeck's close-range equaliser out and is still looking for his first clean sheet in his second spell at United

Jack Robinson of Sheffield Utd shows his frustration: David Klein/Sportimage

George Baldock 7

Superb defending right at the end earned United a point as he got across to clear the ball away inside his own six-yard box after Jahanbakhsh headed against the bar in injury time. Was punished by ref Peter Bankes for two challenges on Solly March down the Brighton left early in the game but otherwise barely put a foot wrong and earns an extra point for his vital intervention right at the end

Chris Basham 6

Got himself out of trouble after Connolly looked to pick his pocket on the edge of United's box and was shifted into midfield again as the Blades changed shape following Lundstram's red card. The ball rebounded off him for Welbeck's equaliser - more often than not, he would deal with that situation. Booked late on

John Egan 6

Showed good defensive instincts in the opening few minutes to deny Connolly and Trossard as Brighton started quickly. Marshalled United's defence well as they looked to see out that elusive first win but may feel disappointed that his defence didn't deal with the deep free-kick that led to Welbeck's equaliser. Headed off the line in injury time before Jahanbakhsh somehow nodded against the crossbar

Jack Robinson 6

Was too easily outmuscled by Trossard as he created a chance for Maupay early in the game but improved as the game went on and Brighton launched attack after attack in an attempt to get back into it

Enda Stevens 6

Bust a gut to get forward and support Burke as he held the ball up, but his well-struck shot went the wrong side of the post from a United perspective. Got forward to play in McGoldrick to cross for Bogle's goal

Ethan Ampadu 6

Went about his work quietly in midfield, putting his foot in here and playing a simple pass there. Showed his tenacity late on with a good challenge high up the pitch on Welbeck to set up another chance for the Blades

John Lundstram 4

Recalled to replace the injured Sander Berge, who damaged his hamstring against Manchester United, Lundstram tried to catch out the Brighton goalkeeper by shooting from a free-kick inside his own half, which perhaps suggested confidence isn't lacking within him. But his afternoon ended prematurely when he saw red for a challenge on Veltman, which Peter Bankes upgraded from yellow after he had a look at the VAR monitor. His suspension leaves United really short in midfield with Berge's injury as well

John Fleck 4

Was robbed of possession too easily when Robinson played a free-kick short to him and Brighton broke at pace, with Lallana's shot deflected wide. He was later taken off for Burke after just over half an hour of the game and didn't appear to be injured. Hasn’t been anywhere near his best since he returned from injury

David McGoldrick 7

Fresh from his two goals against Man U, McGoldrick thought he had another when he curled a free-kick towards the bottom corner and was turning away to celebrate as Sanchez made a smart save. Good vision saw him set Burke free for Stevens' chance and he later claimed an assist from Bogle's goal

Rhian Brewster 6

United's record signing earned a start after an impressive cameo against the Red Devils but United were robbed of the chance to see how he would function in a front three when Lundstram was sent off and the Blades had to reshuffle. Sacrificed early in the second half as Jayden Bogle made his Premier League debut

Subs

Oliver Burke 6

Almost made an instant impact as he ran at the home defence moments after coming on and forced a foul from Dunk, who was booked. Used his pace to good effect to get away from Dunk and set up a chance for Stevens and could have settled the game after a good pass from Osborn, but he blazed his shot high, wide and not particularly handsome. Then Brighton made him pay for his lack of composure with a late equaliser

Jayden Bogle 7

Replaced Brewster to make his Premier League debut and added a goal to make it even more memorable, as his shot was deflected off Webster and past Sanchez

Ben Osborn 6

Replaced McGoldrick to give United some much-needed legs in midfield as they looked to see out the game, but almost helped to seal it as he played in Burke with just over five minutes left. Saw yellow for a terrier-like tackle on Trossard late in the game, from which Welbeck equalised
