Striker David McGoldrick, returning to the starting XI after recovering from a foot injury which saw him miss the midweek victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, was the hero for the Blades as he scored a brace – his first ever goals in the top flight – to help his side inch ever closer to European football next season.

The 32-year-old frontman’s striker partner Oli McBurnie netted United’s other goal in a stunning victory, Chris Wilder’s side’s third in four games since the return of football following the coronavirus crisis.

Here’s what Blades fans are saying on Twitter this evening as their side move to within four points of fifth placed Manchester United.

@TuftyBall David McGoldrick has to take the plaudits. From the two goals he scored, to the through balls he played and the tackles he made, he ran the game today. I'm delighted he's broke his duck with a brace. He deserves every bit of praise he gets. Phenomenal player. #SUFC #TwitterBlades

@Stevwrig Four points each off both last season's Europa League finalists and the Champions League runner-up. Most pundits would have said we'd not get one win out of those six games at the start of the season. #sufc #twitterblades

@robp1889 The best there is and the best there has ever been. Christopher Wilder #sufc #twitterblades #legend

@UpTheBlades89 What a game. Fantastic result for #twitterblades. I cannot believe how good that game was and brilliant to see McGoldrick getting two goals. #sufc #skysports #premierleague #SHUCHE #chelsea Is Europe really on?

@ryanmathews1893 Beaten Wolves and beaten Chelsea. Doing all Man Utd’s dirty work. They better give us Dean Henderson on a free transfer #sufc #twitterblades

@azzle94 Alright someone wake me up, I’ve gotta be dreaming? No way have we just outclassed Chelsea 3-0? Never write this team off. European tour he we come. #SUFC #twitterblades

@Webbie210 There are so many things about this team that I love but what I love more than anything is that we play in way that no one has done before and everyone said wouldn’t work in this league #sufc #twitterblades

@oldsufctweets Three games to go. Who would bet against us winning all three on this form? #twitterblades #sufc

@SufcW8w David McGoldrick now has more home goals than Roberto Firmino #sufc #twitterblades

@Woody_9 Absolutely nothing surprises me about this Sheffield United team anymore. What a team, what a club. We are a match for anyone, especially at home. #sufc #twitterblades

@fozzy_chris Wow! Not even the best performance of the season for me, but wow! The fact it should have been more than three shows how much better than Chelsea we were, at both ends as well as between them! #sufc #twitterblades
