Anthony Martial’s hat-trick condemned Chris Wilder’s side to their second three-goal reverse in four days as the Blades’ bid to qualify for European football was dealt another blow on the road.

They’re also yet to score since the season resumed at Villa Park seven days ago.

The result leaves United in eighth place and seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea having played a game more with just seven fixtures remaining this season.

Here’s what United fans on Twitter thought of tonight’s result and performance.

@tyronej1984 Absolutely fell off a cliff since the restart. We look done. Desperately need to show something resembling our usual selves in the final seven league games. #twitterblades #SUFC

@Hstew97 What am I watching here, just get the season over with and regroup for next season. Toxic playing like this and it’s a shame to see with all the hard work they’ve put in all season #SUFC #twitterblades

@TravelingBlade Thank Christ that’s over. Started off promising, ended up depressing. #MUNSHU #sufc #twitterblades

@LiamJamesC Full faith in Wilder to get it sorted, but frankly, not good enough. Again. No fight in any of the three games since the restart, players letting Wilder down in my opinion. #SUFC #TwitterBlades

@mike_g_sheff We go again against @Arsenal on Sunday. Chin up Blades #sufc #twitterblades #MUNSHU

@Glavesys Don’t worry blades fans. When we win FA cup we get in Europe anyway #twitterblades #sufc

@LewisBagshaw Do we know that football is back? Anyone told the team? #sufc #twitterblades

@Blades_Mad Of course Man United have multi-millions of pounds worth of talent, and that certainly is a major advantage. Of course. I think the effects of the last two performances before this one still linger. Taking today in isolation, we've had worse results #sufc #twitterblades #MUNSHU

@Pazzamore1 It’s June 2019, someone says “Blades will be eighth with seven games left and in the FA Cup quarter final this time next year”. You would have laughed. Let’s all just remember that. #sufc #twitterblades

@The_Bladesman Thought our performance in the first half was good. Second half the intensity and effort went out of the window. We're fighting for European places. Why does it look like we don't care?

@ryanmathews1893 We lack strength in depth. We've been lucky with injuries until now JOC, Fleck, Moose. We need players who can come straight into the team and fill the void. Forget the starting 11, we need players on the bench who can impact a game #sufc #twitterblades

@MartyKBlade Could be worse, could be Norwich, Villa, Bournemouth..... #sufc #twitterblades

@J_hanwell Over eactions, over expectations. Give it a break. Brush it off, move on, we’re a top half Premier League team - it’s unreal. #sufc #twitterblades

@Morleyblade92 Have we massively over achieved this season? Definitely. I couldn’t care if we lose the rest but the manner of performance is crucial. Just highlights the transfer window coming up is so important, lack of depth at GK, CB and Fwd #twitterblades #sufc
