Sheffield United slumped to a 3-0 defeat against West Ham on Monday evening – and fans have been quick to react on social media.

The Blades were always going to be in for a tough task against David Moyes’ in-form Hammers, but survived an early scare when the hosts had a penalty award overruled by VAR.

Chris Wilder's men wouldn't be as lucky a second time, however, and Declan Rice put the Irons ahead from the spot after Chris Basham brought down Jesse Lingard in the area.

Issa Diop doubled West Ham’s lead with a header in the second half before Ryan Fredericks added a third right at the death.

The result leaves Sheffield United rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, 14 points from safety with 14 games left to play.

@joehardy96: Been a while since I've felt this down about football, I don't know whether it's the hope of recent performances, Egans injury or simply getting battered 3-0 but boy do I feel miserable

@doncarlos83: Not bad overall tonight, we just don't create enough chances. Unfortunately the ones we did create fell to Didzy who just isn't a centre forward. 3rd goal was a disgrace but heads had long since dropped

@martinallen1889: “The Blades now need to be focussed on next season. As far as is sensible, any player who won’t be at the club next season needs dropping. May as well start giving experience to our long term future. We’ve come up short due to finance but can go again.”
