Following Chris Wilder's shock exit last March, a host of managers have been linked with becoming his successor, including the likes of Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton, Chelsea icon John Terry, and former Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
Oostende coach Alexander Blessin has been heavily-linked with the job, and recently spoke out on the rumours via the local media, claiming: “If you do it right, there is always interest. Still, I only focus on the match against Cercle. It makes no sense to draw up a master or future plan as a coach. You can live much better today and now.”
Here's a rundown of the current favourites to become the next Sheffield United manager, ranked from lowest to highest chance of landing the job:
1. Roy Keane - Current odds: 25/1
The ex-Manchester United hard man is rumoured to be keen on a return to management after a decade out of the hot seat. He's been linked with a number of jobs, but becoming the Blades' next manager looks to be unlikely. Photo: Catherine Ivill
2. Neil Warnock - Current odds: 25/1
Warnock took the Blades up to the Premier League back in 2006, and is a lifelong fan of the club. However, he's only recently signed a new deal with Middlesbrough, so he won't be going anywhere any time soon. Photo: Ross Kinnaird
3. Sam Allardyce - Current odds: 20/1
Big Sam's West Bromwich Albion also look to be heading down, and it would be a surprise to see him remain in the job. The 66-year-old has won just four of nineteen games in charge of the Baggies. Photo: MICHAEL STEELE
4. Neil Lennon - Current odds: 20/1
He's won five league titles with Celtic over two spells, and has unfinished business in England having had a dismal time with Bolton in the past. He looks unlikely to get the United job, though. Photo: Ian MacNicol
