Sheffield United poked fun at neighbours Sheffield Wednesday with a cheeky 'wash your hands' coronavirus video last night - and Blades fans lapped it up.

United’s social media team played on the serious message behind preventing the spread of Covid-19 by washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.

Many variations have been used to time that 20 seconds – including singing ‘happy birthday’ twice.

But United’s Twitter feed last night offered another option – using footage of Mark Duffy’s goal against Wednesday in a 4-2 win back in 2017, with a 20-second timer in the bottom corner.

Wednesday had levelled the scores moments earlier in the game before substitute Duffy’s late, and iconic, intervention.

The tweet quickly went viral with Blades fans full of praise.

Twitter user @SufcW8w wrote: “This is the best Twitter post I've ever seen,” while @Al3xTheCoach tweeted: “My club with tweet of the year.”

@Brown_Dog74 added: “How do we get a serious message over to the masses? Let’s create a clever tweet and get more attention, and maybe lighten the mood too.”
