Boss Paul Heckingbottom has something of a headache in his striker department after Oli McBurnie was sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Spurs, meaning he misses out against Eddie Howe’s side. With a number of forwards already missing through injury, it is an issue he could have done without.
Elsewhere there are question marks over John Egan’s fitness while George Baldock will miss out with a calf issue. So how will Heckingbottom approach the game as United look for their first win of the season, against a side who faced AC Milan in midweek Champions League action? We tasked our man with stepping into Heckingbottom’s shoes and selecting the side he would pick to face Newcastle - do you agree, or would you go about it in a different way?
5. Jack Robinson
Auston Trusty came off the bench to make his Blades debut at Spurs but it remains Robinson’s shirt at left centre-half after another impressive and full-blooded display from the defender in north London
6. Luke Thomas
Another impressive performer at Spurs, Thomas was struggling fitness-wise towards the end of the game but hopefully is in the right shape to face Newcastle as he currently looks a better all-round proposition than Yasser Larouci on the left wing
7. Ollie Norwood
With Tom Davies and Anis Slimane edging towards full fitness there is real competition in the Blades midfield now but as an unashamed Norwood fan I’d be more than tempted to recall him after being left out of the starting XI at Spurs. Souza gives him valuable physical protection and allows him to dictate play when he’s in full flight Photo: DARREN STAPLES
8. Vini Souza
The big Brazilian’s statistics were again impressive last weekend and he seems to be getting up to speed with life in the Premier League by the week
