Casting his pre-match prediction for BBC Sport, pundit Mark Lawrenson backed the Red Devils to secure a comfortable 2-0 win over Chris Wilder's side.

Justifying his scoreline choice, the ex-Liverpool man claimed: "As they showed against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday, Manchester United have hit their stride, especially in attack.

"Their momentum is going to be hard to stop - they have got plenty of strength in depth if they do pick up any injuries.

He continued: "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have not lost in the league since Arsenal won at Old Trafford on 1 November, and nothing I have seen from Sheffield United suggests they are capable of ending that run.

"The Blades are back in Manchester on Saturday when they face Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, so this is not exactly an easy spell for them. At least it is only a short journey home."

Meanwhile, Lawro's opponent for the week, TV Priest guitarist and Liverpool fan Alex Sprogis, tipped Solskjaer's side to beat the Blades 2-1.

He revealed: "With a heavy heart I think our great rivals will win this one. I feel for Sheffield United this season - it's a shame to see Chris Wilder's side struggling so badly."

The last time the two sides met, in mid-December, the Red Devils came from behind to win 3-2, after David McGoldrick opened the scoring for the Blades within five minutes of kick-off.
