Writing his weekly predictions column for BBC Sport, pundit Mark Lawrenson gave his verdict on United's chances of success this season, and claimed:

"Sheffield United did far better than I expected last season, but I still have my doubts about whether they have got enough goals in their side. I look forward to them proving me wrong.

"Wolves also had an excellent campaign, and now they have to try to match it. Like the Blades, they are always very competitive and I'm expecting a decent battle here."

Lawro went on to predict a 1-1 draw, while his opponent for the week, soul singer and Arsenal fan Celeste, opted for a 2-1 Wolves win.

Over the course of last season, Lawrenson predicted that the Blades would lose 21 out of their 38 Premier League matches - an outcome that would have seen them avoid relegation by just six points.

The last time United played Wolves, back in July, John Egan's dramatic injury time goal saw Chris Wilder's side secure a 1-0 win over their opponents at Bramall Lane.

Meanwhile, the Blades are continuing to search for a new striker to complete their transfer window business, Wilder revealed on Thursday. He said: "It will most probably be a loan market - the one that we're speaking to at the moment. But there's players on that list, whether they're loan or permanent, and like everybody, there's a pecking order on that one."
