The Manchester United goalkeeper has been imperious during his two loan spells at Bramall Lane - the most recent of which is set to end on June 1.

Although there is uncertainty over how that will play out - the season will almost certainly go on longer than that date, if it restarts amid the current coronavirus crisis - doubt also overshadows Henderson's long-term future, too.

The young England goalkeeper harbours real ambitions of being Old Trafford and England No.1, and has no intention of returning to his parent club to play second fiddle to Spanish international David De Gea.

De Gea recently signed a long-term contract to keep him at Old Trafford, and is thought to be the highest-paid player at the club. He recently stated that he hopes to remain in Manchester for "many years".

Sources close to Old Trafford have told ESPN that the Red Devils are understandably reluctant to sell Henderson, with the likes of Juventus and Chelsea reportedly interested.

Even if Ole Gunnar Solskjær did sanction Henderson's sale, the Blades would be unable to compete with their rivals in terms of fee or wages.

So for all parties, another loan move may prove the most suitable - and likely - option.

But ESPN also report that a number of United's top-flight rivals would rival their signature for Henderson on loan for the new season ... whenever that may begin.
