Speaking after watching his side climb to fifth in the Premier League table, after only being promoted from the Championship last term, manager Chris Wilder highlighted how United’s players responded to the backing they received en route to the win which moved them to within two points of fourth-placed Chelsea with only 12 matches of their campaign remaining.

Although Wilder praised the durability United’s squad displayed against AFC Bournemouth, who controlled the opening stages of Sunday’s fixture at Bramall Lane, he said: “Yet again, it was a fabulous reaction from the fans and also the lads themselves. The two, for me, go hand in hand.

“The boys have got that spirit, but when they’ve got that backing behind them too, it makes it even more powerful.”

United, who return to action when Brighton and Hove Albion travel to South Yorkshire on February 22nd, cancelled-out Callum Wilson’s opener for the visitors when Billy Sharp pounced moments before half-time. John Lundstram secured their 10th victory in the competition since August with a clinical finish after the break, converting fellow substitute Lys Mousset’s assist.

“To turn a losing position into a winning one, in this competition, that goes to show the belief these players have got,” Wilder added. “It’s also brilliant to see how our supporters help them come through situations like that. When we went a goal down, they just cheered us on even more.”
