'Made my dreams come true', 'Thanks for everything' - Sheffield United stars Rhian Brewster, Chris Basham and Co. react to Chris Wilder's departure

The confirmation of Chris Wilder's exit from Sheffield United was confirmed this evening to great sadness and frustration from Blades fans, and also a number of social media tributes from United's players.

Oli McBurnie was one of the first, posting: "Today is a sad day for everyone at this great football club.

"Thank you for everything you did for me and my family gaffer, I will never forget it.

"We truly shared some fantastic times on and off the pitch together. Sorry we let you down in the end."

John Egan added: "Thank you for everything. Time of our lives," alongside a picture of him celebrating promotion with Wilder, while Rhian Brewster wrote: "Will forever be grateful for the belief you’ve had in me. I don’t think anyone can forget what you’ve achieved with the Blades. All the best gaffer."

Chris Basham said that Wilder "gave me opportunities I could only have dreamed to achieve. Memories to last a lifetime. Thanks for everything Gaffer," while Ollie Norwood said: "Thanks for the opportunity gaffer, some of the best times of my career."

Other United players offered their own tributes.

Wilder officially left United by mutual consent this evening, when the club released an official statement confirming the news and thanking their talismanic former manager for his service.

Under Wilder, United won two promotions in three years, and finished ninth in their first top-flight season.
