Lys Mousset believes he has a future at Sheffield United, despite being allowed to return to France while the Blades chased a place in Europe last season.

Mousset was a notable absentee from the Blades squad in their last two games of the Premier League campaign. After initially refusing to comment on Mousset's absence from the teamsheet against Everton, boss Chris Wilder later revealed that he gave the striker permission to return to France after his partner gave birth.

He subsequently missed United's last game of the season, at Southampton, while Wilder has struggled to hide his frustration over the striker at times.

But Mousset, who is training with his former club Le Havre ahead of United's return to pre-season in the coming weeks, believes he still has a future at Bramall Lane.

"I think so, yes," he told Paris-Normandie. "Either way, I’m happy [in England].

“They never really gave me a chance at Bournemouth. Everything changed for me at Sheffield United, they play me, I feel good in the group and the fans are great.

"The stadium is far bigger than Bournemouth’s, who are a small club. The atmosphere, it’s crazy."

Mousset finished his first season at United as the club's joint-top goalscorer with six goals from 11 starts.

"If I was less decisive at a certain point, it’s because I wasn’t great in my head," Mousset, who also had to deal with family bereavement throughout the season, added.

"Because I didn’t play a lot for three years at Bournemouth, I fell victim to small injuries to my knee [and] my Achilles."
