The lowdown on Sheffield United's trip to Burnley

The Referee: Chris Kavanagh, who was the VAR official for United’s game against Everton on Boxing Day, will take charge of the fixture with Peter Bankes overseeing operations at Stockley Park. From Lancashire, Kavanagh last refereed United when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in July. He booked two players during that game but averages 4.3 cautions a match this term.

The Form Guide: United have not won since returning to action in September, losing all but two of their outings so far. They score an average of 0.54 goals per game and concede 1.7. Burnley have won two, lost two and drawn two of their last matches, scoring four times in the process. Their defence has been breached eight times during that run.

The Last Time Out: It finished 1-1 at the end of normal time when these two teams met in the Carabao Cup at the beginning of the season, with Burnley eventually progressing via a penalty shoot out. David McGoldrick edged United in front following a Max Lowe assist, before Matej Vydra equalised for the hosts.

The History Lesson: This will be the 126th competitive meeting between these two clubs, with United winning 50 of those while 33 have ended all square. Their last two fixtures have both finished in draws at the end of normal time, with Burnley’s most recent win over United coming in the Championship nine years ago.
