England Euro 2020: "Little bit in love with him", "It's actually coming home" - Sheffield United fans react after Aaron Ramsdale gets call

It was confirmed this morning that Aaron Ramsdale will be the first Sheffield United player to represent England at a major tournament since Alan Hodgkinson in 1962 – and Blades fans were understandably elated for their goalkeeper.

Ramsdale got the call to replace a former Blade in Dean Henderson, after the Manchester United stopper suffered a hip injury that would have limited his ability to train throughout the tournament.

Ramsdale’s first taste of senior tournament football will be Friday’s clash with Scotland – tournament rules stipulate that managers must name two goalkeepers on the bench.

Here’s how a selection of Blades fans reacted to the news on Twitter...

@katysufc: Biggest turnaround of a season, ever, for this guy. Hated him at Christmas n now I’m a little bit in love with him. One I’m happy to say I got wrong, couldn’t be happier for him

@MaanuelSaavedra: Gran parte de la temporada ha sostenido al equipo. Merecido. [“Much of the season has sustained the team. Deserved.”]

@KieranBatham: Tell ya what, absolutely fair play to [Ramsdale]. I’m not gonna hide away from the fact I didn’t think he was good enough mid way through but he’s proven me and many others wrong. Fair play and buzzing he’s been called into the squad. Another SUFC academy player as well.”

@topboyblade: Who’d have thought this would happen after the first 2-3 months at SUFC? Full credit to him.

@TomEyre78: This bloke got dog’s abuse from some idiots earlier this season, he's now at the Euros. Great keeper.

@Jeffcock94: Just shows what can happen if you keep on grinding even through the rough patches. Fully deserved.

@EdwardRamsdale: What an opportunity. Take it with everything you have. Deep Breaths, Clenched Fists

@Carl30691554: Proved so many supporters wrong and I bet CW has a big grin on his face too. Well done Rammers

@Dave67753850: Any other goalkeeper in the Lion's Den should be sent home… Rammers does the role of the number one, number two and number three goalkeeper. Gutted for Henderson,but absolutely buzzing for my guy Rammers

@JonGray01045779: So that’s a full half a dozen of our ex academy players in the Euros with four in the England squad. Good work Blades

@sufcdann: It’s actually coming home
