Against Aston Villa, a 12th minute red card for John Egan meant it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Chris Wilder’s men.

They appeared to have found a breakthrough when Chris Basham was upended by Matt Targett in the box but John Lundstram missed the resulting penalty.

@Justy1Rice felt the red card was the turning point, posting: "Red card absolutely ruined that game. Massive positive has to be the attitude and fight but still quite worried in general. Ramsdale seems poor, footwork is dreadful. Lundstram runs around a lot but he’s not good enough. The next 6 fixtures looks bad.”

and @CA__SUFC agreed: “Always up against it with 10 men, spoiled the match for me but we gave it our all and can’t fault the effort of the lads who all look shattered.”

@JackAshbourne mantained an element of calm this early in the season, saying: “Still don’t think there’s any need to panic. Get that striker in, and don’t go a man down or 2-0 down in first ten mins and we’ll be reyt. We go again, up the blades”

@thewilljeffrey said: “Proud of our lads tonight, definitely deserved something out of the game. Never a red. Up the blades”

@DemBladesDavid felt United could have at least pinched a point: “We could've nicked something there. Looked so solid defensively, especially being down to ten men for such a long time in the match. An impressive effort. No worries for me this season. Looking forward to the reaction against Leeds!”

And @S10Blade was keeping his head up, dspiet the loss: “That was a hard watch. Positives are we showed bags of determination, grit, effort and character. Big moments went against us, but we battled well with 10 men. #SUFC #twitterblades on to the next one.”
