"Life goes on" - Aaron Ramsdale says Sheffield United have to get over Chris Wilder's exit and look towards the future

Aaron Ramsdale says Sheffield United have to move on from the disappointment of Chris Wilder’s exit – and look to build on the foundations that their former manager built for the club.

United bounced back well from their 5-0 demolition at Leicester last weekend, which came less than 24 hours after Wilder’s departure was officially announced, to give a good account of themselves at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

It wasn’t enough to book a place in the FA Cup semi-finals – an own goal from Ollie Norwood and a late strike from Hakim Ziyech earned Chelsea a last-four showdown with Manchester City – but, according to Ramsdale, it can lay the foundations to restore a bit of pride between now and the end of a season that looks destined to end in relegation back to the Championship.

“Last week was a real tough one to take,” the goalkeeper said.

“Personally, for myself and the lads who have been here for a long time, but even the lads who came in the summer who had no affiliation with the gaffer before that.

“It hurt everyone. We now have to move on, life still goes on and football goes on.

“We've got to show him and the fans a bit of pride, get something out of this season and then go again because he's built the foundations for us.

“We had the plan set out for this [Chelsea] game, and we almost implemented it to a tee.

“It's a bit new, but in the second half the shackles came off a little bit.”
