Leicester City boss makes Harry Souttar transfer admission amid Sheffield United interest, hits back at Chris Wilder comments
Leicester City boss Russell Martin has hit back at Chris Wilder’s public declaration of interest in bringing Harry Souttar back to Sheffield United, insisting: “There’s nothing to talk about.”
Leicester City have fielded “a couple of offers” for Sheffield United target Harry Souttar this summer, manager Russell Martin has admitted, with the Foxes boss hoping that the Australian international stays put at the King Power Stadium.
United have made Souttar their top centre-half target this summer and were quoted £10m for him earlier in the summer. They also enquired about a loan-to-buy deal which was knocked back.
United remain hopeful that a deal can be struck, with Souttar keen on a return to Bramall Lane after a loan spell two seasons ago. Blades boss Chris Wilder has made no secret of his desire to sign Souttar again this summer, before he captained a Leicester side in a behind-closed-doors defeat to Coventry City on Saturday.
A stronger Leicester side faced Genoa later that day and speaking afterwards, Martin said: "There's been a couple of offers, but no discussions, and the answer has been no.
“We're looking for people to add to the squad that will help us in a few positions. It'll become clear for you guys over the next couple of weeks when we see people come in, you might see people go - I hope Harry's not one of them.
"People will only leave when it's right for us and it's right for them, both parties are happy with how it looks. I wouldn't usually comment on people staying or going but we have an opposition manager in Chris - who I really like - who keeps talking about one of our players.
“But right now there's literally nothing to talk about. He played brilliantly today [against Coventry], he'll be involved next week, as it stands, and I'm really enjoying working with him."
