Fleetwood have sacked manager Graham Alexander following Tuesday's 5-1 defeat by Gillingham.

The 43-year-old has been at the club since December 2012 but has been dismissed after just two wins this season.

The Scot leaves Fleetwood 20th in Sky Bet League One.

Alexander guided the team to the third tier for the first time in their history with victory over Burton in 2014 play-off final.

Speaking after the heavy defeat at Priestfield, Alexander told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm the manager, of course I take responsibility.

"I'm not stupid, I don't hide, I'm a man. I've been through hard times as a player, I've been through hard times as a manager and this is a hard time."
