United to hit back - Kenny

The Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper admits there is plenty of room for improvement in United's performances so far this season but, as Bryan Robson's side prepare to face Wolves this afternoon, said: "We know we can do better but I'm sure we will do.

"When you look at what's happened so far there's actually not a lot gone wrong.

"We're not far off.

"We conceded a last minute goal against Colchester to draw the match on the opening day and then last time out against Scunthorpe we lost in the last minute.

"Two late goals have cost us four points and although that's disappointing, it tells me that we're not going too far wrong."

United entertain Wolves having won just once in the league this term and drew widespread criticism for their below par display at Scunthorpe.

Robson, who criticised his players' attitude at Glanford Park earlier this week, has taken steps to avoid a repeat performance by organising a series of defensive drills at Shirecliffe this week and his bid to set United back on track could be boosted by the possible return of Lee Hendrie and Gary Naysmith from injury.

However, Robson will definitely be without Derek Geary (suspension) and Nick Montgomery (hernia).

"We've conceded a few and we don't like doing that," Kenny continued.

"We've been doing a lot of work on tightening that up a bit this week in training.

"The new gaffer coming in wants to do things a little bit differently but all of the lads have taken to him straight away."

Like Kenny, Robson agrees that only minor adjustments, not major surgery, are required.

"We don't want to fall too far behind the leaders," he said "But we'd be right up there with just a couple of minutes difference.

"Then things would have looked very different - high up in the league and in the third round of the Carling Cup."
