GOALSCORING hero meet ... goalscoring hero!

Sheffield United gstriking legend Keith Edwards got a one-on-one with a youngster who would love to reach such heights one day and has certainly started out pretty promisingly.

Nine-year-old Alex Grimmer scored an excellent 66 goals playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels Under 9s in the Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League last season - and that made him top scorer across all the age groups throughout the league.

"It's quite a record and he certainly knows where the net is so perhaps he doesn't need any tips from me," laughed Keith.

"Let's hope he can keep it going as he gets older."

Obviously he has a very long way to go, but Alex is at least on the right road to emulate Edwards - he is signed up for the Sheffield United Academy.

The duo met at Bracken Moor where Alex started training within Stocksbridge's junior set-up when he was only four.

He is among the 420 players operating within 21 squads at Stocksbridge Park, which saw them named as an FA Community Club, the highest award in the FA's Charter Standard Scheme.

The award recognises the club's outstanding work in supporting junior football, with Stocksbridge operating 16 age- group squads involving both boys and girls.

Colchester United - visitors to Bramall Lane today - say the FA decided not to overturn the three-game ban given to striker Clive Platt. The club's record buy will be available to play against United today, though, as the suspension does not kick in until next week.
