Wolverhampton Wanderers’ preparations for Sunday’s game against Sheffield United have been disrupted by reports that Nuno Espirito Santo, their Portuguese manager, is considered as a potential replacement for Unai Emery by Arsenal’s board of directors.

Emery, whose side were beaten 1-0 by United at Bramall Lane last month, could be axed if they lose again at Norwich City this weekend.

Although several other potential candidates have been identified, including Arsenal’s assistant first team coach Freddie Ljungberg and their former midfielder Mikel Arteta, Nuno is thought to boast several admirers among the Londoners’ hierarchy.

Ricardo Sa Pinto, whose Braga side face Wolves in the Europa League tomorrow, said his counterpart at Wolves deserves to be linked with the potential vacancy at Arsenal ahead of the Group K tie.

Nuno was previously touted as a contender for a job at Chelsea, before Frank Lampard’s appointment as Maurizio Sarri’s successor.
