Sheffield United will get ‘stronger and stronger’

Adkins is impressed by performances and results in recent weeks, which have seen United move back to within a point of the play off places, though 12 points adrift of an automatic promotion spot.

United welcome sixth-placed Peterborough to Bramall Lane on Saturday and the manager believes things are now clicking into place.

“You could see there was a spirit out there (against Bradford), players working hard for each other, and good quality too,” he said. “We scored goals early in the season but conceded and that was something we wanted to address.

“Going into the Barnsley game that was something we wanted to change. With a consistency of team selection we have gone on and put a string of results together.

“We’ve got an experienced group and have shown a good defensive resolve. We are at the half way mark now, we are in and around it.

“There’s a long way to go and I’m looking for us to get stronger and stronger during the second-half of the season.”

Meanwhile, Chris Morgan has left Bramall Lane to take up the role of first team coach at Chesterfield.

The former Blades skipper, who also had two caretaker spells in charge of United, had been working with the club’s under 21 side, but has now joined his former manager at Barnsley and United Danny Wilson, at the Proact.

Adkins said: “We wish Chris well, he is a legend at this Football Club and he will always be welcome back. This is a great opportunity for him to work closely with an experienced manager as he looks to develop his own career.”
