Sheffield United: Respects to be paid to legendary Blades pair

Respects will be paid to the Blades’ former goalkeeper plus long time club photographer Martyn ‘Baldy’ Harrison who also passed away earlier this week.

Hodgkinson’s iconic United moments came in the traditional green goalkeeping jersey and supporters have been asked to wear the colour in his memory.

Former players Tony Currie, Ted Hemsley, Eddie Colquhoun, Tommy Hoyland and Carl Bradshaw and Len Badger will assist in the tributes to both men.

Currie and Badger will lay wreaths in the goalmouth in front of the Kop, Harrison’s favoured vantage point and where Hodgkinson plied his trade.

And a minute’s applause will be held for the pair prior to kick-off.

Blades boss Nigel Adkins said: “Alan was a legend.

“A goalkeeper, which was my position, but a great character, a man who has represented our football club, Sheffield United, with real pride.

“There will be remembrance for him at the weekend as they will Baldy – another legend but in a different aspect.

“He took the pictures that have given everyone the memories so we should remember Martyn Harrison as well.

“I think it will be very poignant at the weekend that two legends will be remembered.”
