Sheffield United to remember goalkeeping legend and club photographer at today’s match

Goalkeeping legend Alan ‘Hodgy’ Hodgkinson and club photographer Martyn ‘Baldy’ Harrison will be remembered at the game against Coventry.

Both teams will wear black arm bands, a specially commissioned flag will be take around Bramall Lane, wreaths will be laid and there will be a special edition of the match day programme.

Former players including Tony Currie and Ted Hemsley, will assist in the tributes which start at 11.45am

Fans are also being encouraged to wear green as a mark of respect to ‘Hodgy,’ who passed away aged 79, and tweet images of the games using #ripbaldy in memory of Martyn, who died aged 60.

Club historian John Garrett said: “Hodgy when he appeared for his beloved Sheffield United did it in a good, old fashioned green ‘keeper shirt and we urge all to wear something green in his memory this Sunday.

“Tony Currie and Len Badger will carry the wreaths to The Kop goal mouth. We believe that it is fitting for that to be the place they are laid as it was Martyn’s favoured vantage point and, of course, Alan’s footsteps for an entire career.

“Fans are being encouraged to ‘Turn the Lane Green’ for Hodgy and ‘Picture it’ in memory of Martyn through their mobile devices and then tweeting the images using #ripbaldy.”

Kick-off is at noon.
