Sheffield United poised to issue goalkeeper update

Sheffield United are expected to clarify Michael Verrips’ condition shortly, amid fears the goalkeeper suffered a concussion ahead of their Premier League fixture against West Ham.

Verrips was helped off the pitch during last weekend’s FA Cup victory over AFC Fylde after accidentally colliding with a team mate. He later took to social media to admit he had been concussed.

However, if the condition was clinically diagnosed, it would leave Chris Wilder without cover for Dean Henderson unless Simon Moore recovers from the groin problem which has ruled him out since December’s win at Brighton and Hove Albion. Moore pulled-up in training before that fixture, which prompted Verrips, a summer signing from KV Mechelen, to be summoned into the first team squad.

Academy graduate Marcus Dewhurst was loaned to Guiseley AFC at the beginning of the campaign, although United have termined Jake Eastwood’s temporary agreement with Scunthorpe.
