Blades boss Chris Wilder

But how did the rest of United's squad fare? Our man Danny Hall offers his player ratings.

Blades boss Chris Wilder
Not his day in front of goal with clear cut chances at a premium but didnt stop running and gave Egazi and Dawson plenty to think about.
Dealt with everything in a routine fashion until his big moment came right at the death, when he excelled to deny Gayle. Superb concentration and agility to make the block

Got valuable minutes in his legs after a two-match absence and gave United fresh impetus
A few hairy moments when he tried to play from his own box but was fully in control. Gave United a good outlet down the left with his lightning pace
Will be some player in the future and will surely play at the top level. So classy, he glides across the field and was the unlikely hero with a first-half header
Lacked a bit of accuracy on his passes at times but a few delightful ones too. Seemed to instinctively pull out of a few challenges but avoided the booking that would have ruled him out of the derby
Superb, on and off the ball. Summed up by one ten second spell when he flew into three challenges he had no right to win, and won them all. A joy to watch when in this mood
Came in and seemed like hed never been away. Seemed to read the game quicker than Gayle and Rodriguez
Won everything but will be disappointed to have missed his one chance, curling straight at Johnstone
Could/should he have squared for Sharp in the first half after breaking clear? But did so well to forge the chance for himself in the first place.
Looked like hes played at left centre half all his career and was more than comfortable there once again, nicking the ball away in dangerous situations a few times
Did the simple things so, so well and still hasnt let United down since arriving. Tightened up towards the end and was replaced by Basham
Marshalled the United defence superbly and dealt well with the dangerous Gayle well in a few one-on-one situations. Went off at half time with a tight calf
Understandably tired towards the end after a spell on the sidelines but was heavily involved. Took a nasty whack on the ankle from a poor Gibbs challenge
