“He was a key component of creating an outstanding culture at Sheffield United and he’ll provide a fantastic example for our young professionals day in and day out.

“On the pitch, he’s positionally intelligent, physically robust and a great communicator.”

A statement on United’s official website read: “The former Leicester, Wolves and Fulham ace joined the Blades in July 2017 and made 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals in his time at the Lane.

“The defender famously netted the winner against Middlesborugh last season as the Blades earned promotion to the Premier League.

“During the current campaign, Stearman has made three appearances - all in the cup - scoring one goal.”
