The Blades have shown asbolutely no fear in taking anyone on in the Premier League so far this season, indeed they deserved at least a point from the match when Chris Wilder’s side hosted the Reds at Bramall Lane in September.

That day, it took an uncharacteristic error from Dean Henderson in spilling a Georginio Wijnaldum effort, to settle the encounter but it wasn’t a match in which United sat back and hoped to contain their illustrious opponents.

The Blades took the game to the Europen champions and but for some wayward finishing could have won the game themselves.

However, according to Glen Johnson, the former Liverpool and England defender who is now working as a pundit on Talksport, if Wilder’s men try that again they could be ‘blown away’.

"They are in a position in the league that they would have bitten your arm off (to have) at the start of the season,” Johnson told Jim White and Natalie Sawyer on the station.

“So they have done fantastically well and really they have got a shot to nothing tonight. Obviously no one is giving them much hope.

"It's one of those games where they are going to have to go to Anfield...the longer they stay in the game without conceding the more they can play their way into it.

"If they go to Anfield thinking they are going to take them on playing football, then I expect them to get blown away.

"But if they sit back make it difficult for Liverpool, then start building confidence and playing their football then that's shown they might be able to nick a result but I do still expect Liverpool to be too strong for them in the end.”
