Sheffield United: Celtic's interest in Blades defender wanes as Scottish giants eye up Arsenal ace

Celtic are believed to have identified Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson as an alternative option to Sheffield United's George Baldock, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Last week, reports claimed that the Scottish Premier League titans would look to land Baldock as a replacement for Mikael Lustig, who is set for a return to Sweden on a free agent deal after failing to agree to terms on a new contract with the club.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic boss Neil Lennon is now eyeing Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson, after the Blades appeared unwilling to part company with Baldock.

Despite the 26-year-old having just a year left on his contract, the report suggests that Blades boss Chris Wilder is willing to run the risk of losing the MK Dons on a free transfer next season, as he looks to keep the core of his squad together.

With a massive step up in quality awaiting the Blades in the Premier League, it is unclear whether Wilder will persist with Baldock in the right wing-back position, or whether he will invest in a higher quality option to play the role.

While Jenkinson may be on the books at Arsenal, he doesn't look likely to break his way into their starting XI any time soon, despite the fact that starting right-back Hector Bellerin is likely to miss the start of next season with a knee injury. Certainly, the Gunners could cash in on the ex-England international this summer, who will himself be looking to finally play regular first

team football on a permanent basis.

With less than two months until the new season begins, both sides will be eager to determine their squads for the campaign, and the summer transfer window is expected to burst into life in the next couple of weeks.
