Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder reveals what he thinks will drive Liverpool to Premier League title

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has backed Liverpool to end their long wait for a Premier League title after their 2-0 win over his side at Anfield tonight.

Goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane condemned the Blades to defeat at the league leaders, while Dean Henderson made a number of impressive saves to keep the scoreline down.

The win ensured City have gone 12 months without defeat, their last league loss coming to Manchester City 12 months and 37 games ago.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are now 13 points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand over second-placed Leicester.

And Wilder admitted: “From our point of view, I’m disappointed because we didn’t lay a glove on them and the scoreline flattered them.

“Dean got a lot of criticism for his unfortunate mistake at our place but he was the difference between it being three, four or five tonight.

“I have a lot of admiration for the manager and the club and if there was ever an example for young players, or even our own players, it’s them. They’re European champions, world champions and look like being Premier League champions but they did the basic stuff.

“They won tackles, headers and races and they ran forward and back as a team. Everything they had to do, they did miles better than us. They were more aggressive and physical than us, and that gave them a chance to dictate the game. Which they did.”

Asked if he can see anyone but the Reds winning the league this year, Wilder said: “They did the fundemental aspects that will drive them forward to a Premier League title.

“There’s an appetite and desire around their football club, and a feeling of relentlessness about them. The fans realise how important this season is for them, and it’d be a brave man to bet against them being the champions of this division.”
