Sheffield United: Blades held FA Cup talks

Sheffield United attempted to persuade officials at Old Trafford to lower admission prices for visiting supporters ahead of next month’s FA Cup tie against Louis van Gaal’s side.

The Star understands that representatives acting on behalf of Bramall Lane raised the matter with their Manchester United counterparts following the third round draw earlier this month but failed to win any concessions over ticket fees which are effectively set by the home club.

Although protocol prevents United from acknowledging the talks took place, it is thought they will unveil a more competitive pricing structure in the event of a replay.

Followers of Nigel Adkins’ team, who have been allocated nearly 8,500 seats, must pay a minimum of £45 to watch they game unless they possess a season ticket or qualify for a concession.

United secured a meeting with the 11 time winners when they beat Oldham Athletic in the previous round. Matt Done scored the only goal of the game after 47 minutes as the hosts, who reached the semi-finals of the competition two seasons ago, progressed.

The former Rochdale and Barnsley centre-forward is expected to feature when 11th placed United resume their League One campaign at Scunthorpe on Saturday. Fellow attacker Jamal Campbell-Ryce could also return after making progress in his battle to overcome a hamstring problem.
