Robson dilemma over luxury of attack options

BRYAN Robson admits the goal scoring exploits of Jon Stead and Danny Webber have given him a selection headache during the build-up to Saturday's Championship fixture at Watford.

The Sheffield United manager has a luxury of attacking options at his disposal and was impressed by both men's performances during last night's Carling Cup first round victory over Chesterfield.

Stead (2) and Webber were both on target as United eventually wore down spirited opponents who saw former Bramall Lane forward Jack Lester threaten an upset with a first-half equaliser.

Neither started the league opener against Colchester but despite hinting that Billy Sharp and record-signing James Beattie are likely to return at Vicarage Road, Robson said: "I've always said that you need four quality strikers and in my opinion we've got seven here.

"Those goals will have done the confidence of Jon and Danny the world of good and they've certainly given me one (a nudge.)

"If we are winning games then the players who are in the team will usually stay there but I've got to look at what I think will cause Watford the most problems and try to get the balance right.

"Nobody is happy when they are not playing and they can't all be in there at the same time.

"But that's what I want - competition for places - and that's what I believe we've got."

After a slow start, United's class eventually told against a spirited Chesterfield side who look well-placed to mount their own bid for promotion.

Robson was critical of his team's play during the opening skirmishes but admitted that their second-half display was "much more like what I expect."

However Robson's joy was tempered by the news that Gary Naysmith is a major doubt for the trip to Hertfordshire after damaging knee ligaments during a challenge with Lester.

The Scotland full-back donned the captain's armband in the absence of Chris Morgan.
