Over the weekend Sheffield United were linked with a move for £14m rated Everton defender Mason Holgate.

Holgate was only said to be available depending on the next Everton manager though, and caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson further staked his claim with a fine point away at Manchester United.

Blades target Holgate was glowing in his praise for Ferguson after the game, perhaps hinting that both club and player might be happy with his current situation.

As per the Daily Mail, he said: “We still call him Dunc. He is the person everyone is looking to as the manager but when you speak to him, he is exactly the same. I think that shows who he is and why we are all behind him so much.

“He's been getting us all firing in training and his team talk against Chelsea was unique. He loves the club more than anybody. That's a fact and when someone has that much passion, it passes on to you.

“None of us saw the suit coming though! I think he looked good in it.”

Newcastle United and Bournemouth are also said to be interested in Holgate.
