The Blades are without a league win from their last six matches and are six points outside the top six so are in great need of a good run of form to reignite their promotion ambitions.

But Sheffield-born Long believes United are close clicking together and emerging as a strong force this season.

“We’re not far away from putting together a great run of form,” the 22-year-old told The Star.

“It’s just small details to tweak and get right.

“Once we get that right and have a look at analysing things in games that might not have gone as well as we’d have liked, then we’ll start putting together some good wins together.

“There’s loads of games left in the season.

“We’ve got the potential to go and win the majority of them.

“It’s about putting together performances and keeping things consistent.”

United welcome high-flying Coventry City to Bramall Lane for a televised clash tomorrow.

Long says he expected the Sky Blues to be challenging for promotion this season.

He said: “They’re a big club, they’ve been around the Championship a lot in their history and they’ll be looking to bounce back like we are.

“This season they’re in good form and it’ll be a tough game.”
