Leeds United midfielder Connor Leak-Blunt is on trial with Sheffield United.

The change was spotted by many when Leak-Blunt was named in the Sheffield United under-23’s side on Monday evening, as the Blades took on Wigan Athletic.

Leak-Blunt also featured for the Blades development team for their South Yorkshire clash against Barnsley last week.

The midfielder is only a teenager, and has been part of the academy at the Elland Road club since the age of eight.

In the summer Leak-Blunt signed a new deal to keep him in West Yorkshire until 2022, yet the trial at Bramall Lane raises serious questions about his future at Leeds.

Under current Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa several youngsters have made their first-team debut, including Jack Clarke, who signed for Tottenham Hotspur for a reported £10m in the summer.

Leak-Blunt is yet to feature for the first team at Leeds, perhaps signalling that other young players feature more prominently in the manager’s thinking.

Upon signing his deal at Leeds in the summer, the youngster said: “I’ve been at the club a long time now and to sign my first professional contract is a great feeling.

“It’s good to progress as a young player coming through the ranks, so I hope I can get off to a good start as a pro.

“If you work hard, your dreams come true and I’m really excited to see what the future holds.”
