Geary returns with a mission

United's Carling Cup tie with Morecambe marks the return of the Irish full-back from a three match suspension served following his sending-off against Scunthorpe earlier this month.

Geary was dismissed during the dying moments of the 3-2 defeat after clashing with an opponent and admits that United's performances away from home since then have made for painful viewing.

Bryan Robson blames a series of individual errors for a chequered run of results which have seen United' defences breached 12 times in their last seven league outings.

Despite finding himself on the receiving end of the manager's wrath after seeing red at Glanford Park, Geary is set to win an instant recall when Sammy McIlroy's men visit Bramall Lane.

He said: "It's been a really frustrating time for me since getting sent-off but I've only got myself to blame and I've learned from it.

"It's the first time I've been suspended I think since I came to United and it's not a nice feeling because I admit that I let myself, the manager, the fans and the rest of the lads down.

"The lads have had a talk about what's been going wrong on the road and I'm sure we'll put it right.

"The reason I think that is because individual mistakes have been to blame and although that's not good, I'd be more worried if we were playing well and still getting beaten.

"We are never going to have a problem scoring goals and so if we can tighten up at the back then we'll do well.

"Obviously the defenders will take a lot of the blame and that's understandable but you also defend as a team from the front."

Robson's selection for Morecambe is a secret but Geary and Lee Hendrie are both set to feature.

However paperwork problems have forced Robson to postpone Ze Maria's debut until Saturday's game against Southampton.

Geary added: "Morecambe will be tough opposition because they'll be determined to do well. But we want to put things right after Saturday (when United were beaten by Crystal Palace."
