Blades fans: who else will fall to the underdogs?

The FA Cup third round has traditionally thrown up some great giant-killing acts - and maybe Sheffield United can follow that tradition by taking Manchester United’s scalp. Here we look at seven other ties in the 2015-16 third round where the underdog could prevail.

EVERTON v DAGENHAM OR WHITEHAWK

Football romantics will be keen to see part-timers Whitehawk get through their replay against Dagenham and then cause the Premier League boys problems. Stranger things have happened.

EXETER v LIVERPOOL

This will be Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s first taste of the Cup and of taking on a League Two side on their own ground. The Reds had a few difficulties at AFC Wimbledon last season before squeezing through 2-1.

EASTLEIGH v BOLTON

Eastleigh are chasing promotion from the National League right now, while Bolton are bottom of the Championship and have won only once all season. Conditions appear ripe for an upset.

SALFORD OR HARTLEPOOL v DERBY

There is plenty of interest in non-league Salford City due to their famous ‘Class of 92’ owners, but they have also been making headlines for their exploits on the pitch, having beaten League Two Notts County in the first round. If the seventh-tier side can get past Hartlepool, they will host Derby.

CHELSEA v LEYTON ORIENT OR SCUNTHORPE

Chelsea were the victims of a giant-killing in 2014-15; beaten 4-2 at home by Bradford, and with the Blues having a wretched season, whoever emerges out of Leyton Orient and Scunthorpe’s replay will feel they have a decent enough chance of creating shockwaves.

WYCOMBE v ASTON VILLA

Wycombe know what it is like to upset the odds, having made it to the semi-finals in 2001. While they are presently around the play-offs in League Two, Villa are at the bottom of the Premier League and are incredibly vulnerable.

OXFORD v SWANSEA

Oxford, who are having a great campaign in League Two as leaders of the division, host a Swansea side in poor form in the top flight, with just one win to their name since August.
